Please note: The event on June 12 takes place at the Greensboro Public Library, 219 N. Church St.

Learning & Teaching to Look is a program that trains adult volunteers to introduce visitors to modern and contemporary art. Volunteer tour guides or "docents" focus on visual literacy and use multi-modal teaching strategies to provide engaging learning experiences for visitors of all ages.

Informational meetings at the Weatherspoon Art Museum (June 5 & 13) and the Greensboro Public Library (June 12) will highlight what to expect as a volunteer docent and how to apply to join our next training class (September-November). A background in art is not required, however volunteers who have a curiosity for learning and are comfortable speaking in public have the most positive experiences. Volunteers who bring diverse life experiences and have worked or volunteered with youth in grades K-12 or special needs populations are encouraged to apply.

Attendance at an informational meeting is recommended prior to applying. If you are unable to attend this meeting and wish to apply to the Learning & Teaching to Look program, please contact weatherspoon@uncg.edu with the subject heading: Docents 2019. Applications are due August 1, 2019. Classes begin in September.
