The first documentary by long-time "mockumentarian" Harry Shearer, The Big Uneasy follows three remarkable people--the leaders of two scientific investigation teams, and one whistleblower--as they reveal the true story of why New Orleans flooded, and why it could happen again in communities across America. Directed by Harry Shearer, 2010. 98 minutes. The film is shown in conjunction with the Allora & Calzadilla installation, A Man Screaming Is Not a Dancing Bear, on view at WAM.  A special post-screening discussion will be led by Pamela Jenkins, Professor of Sociology, University of New Orleans, and Steve Kroll-Smith, Professor of Sociology, UNCG.

Pamela Jenkins is a founding member of the UNO's Center for Hazard Assessment, Response and Technology. She has published on first responders, faith-based communities, response to the storm, and the experiences of elderly during and after Katrina. Steve Kroll-Smith is part of the Social Science Research Council's Katrina Task Force, a national research team investigating the social dimensions of the response to and aftermath of Katrina as well as lessons that can be applied to similar disasters in future.

The 6th Annual Sustainability Film + Discussion Series is presented by the Weatherspoon and the UNCG Sustainability Committee to address current issues affecting the environment. The year long series features new documentary films and post-screening discussions with faculty and community experts.

Come early for an information exchange with local businesses and community groups dedicated to sustainable practices. Info exchange begins at 6pm in the Museum atrium. Films begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Free.
