A Room of Their Own: Images of Interiors from the Permanent Collection Gallery 4 May 25 August 3 Artists constantly make choices. They choose their subject matter, which may be as obvious as the figure or a still life, or as complicated as political commentary or autobiography. They choose their medium, which may be as simple as pencil on paper, or as technologically advanced as multiple computer-generated images overlapping in the same space. Every choice affects the work of art and how it is perceived. This exhibition presents works in which artists have chosen to limit the space depicted. From bedrooms to unidentified interiors, these images serve as metaphors for intimacy, solitude, and personal space at the same time that they are objects of deliberate emotional and intellectual design.
