Dike Blair: Now and Again - Falk Visiting Artist
Gallery • 9/13/2009 – 12/6/2009

This major solo exhibition of the work of New York-based artist Dike Blair includes his trademark gouache paintings and post-minimalist light sculptures. After working and exhibiting internationally for more than three decades, Blair’s exhibition at the Weatherspoon will be his first solo museum show and the catalogue will be the first devoted to his work. We are grateful to the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design for their support of the catalogue.

Born in Pennsylvania in 1952, Blair attended Skowhegan before participating in the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1976. Since 1980, his work has been shown in many exhibitions, including major group exhibitions such as “Vanishing Point”, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus; “Let’s Entertain”, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; “Elysian Fields”, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and the “2004 Whitney Biennial”, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Blair is also a writer, a professor at RISD, and a former associate editor of "Purple" magazine. A collection of Blair's writings, "Again: Selected Interviews and Essays" was recently published by WhiteWalls (Chicago, 2007). His work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Whitney Museum, New York; the Brooklyn Museum of Art; Chase Bank and many other public and private collections.

Blair will visit the UNCG campus September 23-25, 2009 as part of the Falk Visiting Artist series, a program produced collaboratively since 1982 by the Weatherspoon and the Art Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The program gives students and members of the community an opportunity to meet and learn from artists who are active in the field.
