Peter Campus is widely considered a seminal figure in the realm of video and new media art, beginning with his now-landmark works in the early 1970s. His early videos focused on individual identity and the shaping of the self, while his more recent work in this exhibition references the history of painting. Begun in 2008, this continuing series is inspired by such great, and diverse, masters as Milton Avery, Paul Cezanne, and Mark Rothko. Campus continues his exploration of perception as he translates classic subject matter into digitally pixelated video works. Several new videos will premiere at the Weatherspoon.

The work of Peter Campus is included in numerous collections in this country and abroad: the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim Museum, New York; Reina Sofia, Madrid; Fondation Cartier, Paris; San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, to name a few.

As a participant in the Falk Visiting Artist program, Campus will be in residence at UNCG for several days, visiting MFA graduate student studios, offering a gallery talk for students, and a public lecture.

The exhibition is organized by Nancy Doll, Director.
