Why Volunteer?

More than 100 volunteers are needed annually to help WAM host special events like our Annual Summer Solstice Party, assist with clerical tasks, greet visitors, and teach in our galleries. See our Volunteer Form to learn more.

Learning & Teaching to Look

Docents are a special dedicated group of volunteers trained to engage with visitors of all ages. Through the "Learning & Teaching to Look" program, docents learn interactive and multi-modal strategies for observing and interpreting modern and contemporary artworks. WAM volunteer docents are responsible for providing free, guided experiences to nearly 5,000 school age children and adult learners annually.

New volunteer docents are accepted into the "Learning & Teaching to Look" program on alternating years following an application and interview process. The next program will be offered in Fall 2019. Learn more by attending a free informational meeting at the Weatherspoon Art Museum (June 5 & 13) or at the Greensboro Public Library (June 12). Please visit the WAM Event Calendar for details and to register.
