Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities are available to help with special events, education programs, and in the Museum Store. Contact us at 336-334-5770 or weatherspoon@uncg.edu to learn more.

• Teen Art Guides

Discover what goes on behind the scenes at the Weatherspoon. Teen Art Guides (TAG) learn the basics of leading museum tours, create cell phone audio guides, and help with select public programs. Participants meet twice monthly, on the first and third Thursdays after school until 5:30 pm during the school year. Participation is free and space is limited. For information on how to participate in the 2011-12 Teen Art Guide program or future TAG activities, please contact Terri Dowell-Dennis at t_dowell@uncg.edu or call 336-344-5770.

• Docent Program

Volunteer docents provide an essential service by creating a welcoming and relaxed environment to our many visitors. Guided tours and "Ask Me" greeters are some of the ways our docents engage visitors with works of art. Docents come from a variety of disciplines and life experiences. They share a love of learning, art, and interacting with the public.

Prospective docents apply and enroll in a semester long training program consisting of bi-monthly classes at the museum, reading assignments, and tour observations. Docents commit to giving tours and participating in continuing education classes for a minimum of one year. The training program is offered every two years; next training is scheduled for 2013.
