Volunteer

Why Volunteer?

More than 200 volunteers are needed annually to help WAM host special events like our Annual Summer Solstice Party, assist with clerical tasks, greet visitors, and teach in our galleries. See our Volunteer Form to learn more.

Teaching + Learning to Look

Docents are a special dedicated group of volunteers trained to engage with visitors of all ages. Through the "Learning to Look" program, docents learn interactive and multi-disciplinary strategies for observing and interpreting works of art. WAM docents are responsible for providing free, guided experiences to nearly 6,000 school age children, university students, and adult learners annually.

Following an application and interview process, new docents are accepted into the museum's training program on alternating years each Fall. Admission to the 2016-17 docent training program has closed. For information on future training programs contact Ann Grimaldi at ann_grimaldi@uncg.edu

Teens Behind-the-Scenes

WAM's teen program is back and it's easier than ever for busy teens to participate! Teens Behind-the-Scenes is a six-week after-school program for high school students. Participants learn about the museum behind-the-scenes, get first-hand career experience via interaction with WAM's staff, and earn the opportunity to become WAM museum greeters for educational programs and special events. Apply by September 8, 2016 HERE.
